New Look – Be the trend27 Apr 2010

New Look – Be the trend - Blog - TrendGiveAfuck

New Look posts these ads little here and there in London, telling you to be the trend by buying their simple outfits.

I found this ironic.

Why? First, you are not starting a trend by buying something that already exists, you are following one.

Second, many, many people seem to think that the words “trend” or “fashion” go together with “uniqueness”.

Fashion is a general term for the style and custom prevalent at a given time (Wikipedia), a Trend is a line of general direction of movement, a line of development, a prevailing tendency or inclination, an emerging style or preference, or the general movement over time of a statistically detectable change. In short, “trend” is a synonym of “tendency”. (Wikipedia).

That is, neither means that you have your personal style. The only way of “being a trend” is to be a “trend setter”, but in a way, even that is a paradox, for having trend followers in a way kills your own style. We at TrendGiveAfuck will have a problem with this in the future, but we will minimise this problem by continue wearing ANYTHING :)

Polaroid – bringing back the classic OneStep!20 Apr 2010

Polaroid – bringing back the classic OneStep! - Blog - TrendGiveAfuck

For all you retro photographers (and hipster wannabes) – Polaroid, of which I don’t think I need to give a further introduction, announced earlier this year that they will release a new version of their OneStep camera!

According to their press release, The PIC 1000 will be available in a range of fun colors and use classic Polaroid Color 600 Instant Film to produce the brand’s classic white border instant pictures. The Polaroid Color 600 Instant Film will work with both classic and new Polaroid cameras and will be offered in packs of 10 pictures. The new classic PIC 1000 camera and instant color film will be available at national retailers in 2010.

I really like the idea of being able to use the new film in older cameras! The “a range of fun colours” isn’t bad either!

Also, Polaroid will ship a new array of digital cameras with built-in printers. I’d think it would be cool having a OneStep camera with digital memory, so you could store all photos and print as many polaroid photo copies as you like! I’m wishing for their 12 megapixel Polaroid 3″x4″ Instant Digital Camera to be just as retro and cool as the PIC 1000. Time will tell!

Oh yeah, apparently, Lady Gaga was recently named creative director for a specialty line of Polaroid products.

Only time will tell if everyone will go goo goo ga ga on Polaroid’s new invention later this year!

The secret to happiness17 Apr 2010

The secret to happiness - Blog - TrendGiveAfuck

Why do we have TrendGiveAfuck? The answer is not the same as to the question why did we create TrendGiveAfuck. We created TrendGiveAfuck because we were so damn tired of the club scene and nightlife in Stockholm in 2008, so we just wanted to do something different and mock the whole scene.

Today I would say TrendGiveAfuck tries to achieve two things, besides the obvious reason that two late-bloomers still want to have a reason to go out and get dirty and have fun.

ONE: What if we could affect people to dress a little bit more colourful (not as in reflections of light even though that is really really nice as well, but as in “show your true colours”-colours) and drop the guard for a while. We don’t have to follow trends, and we don’t have to belong to a genre or group style-wise. I think we would all be a bit happier.

TWO: What if we could make people believe in themselves, and realize that style adds to your self confidence (charismatic people will always be appreciated, and appreciated people will always grow self confidence). And by believing in yourself, your potential, and striving to be the person you really want to be, I think you will be a happier person.

Both Adorian and I have been doing this for over a year now, and boy have we grown! I’m glad to say that we are the living proof that this works.
